And now, the latest 777 Update, dated Wednesday, April 26, 2000.
"The news, not the bull ...."
Welcome to the first Update since February. The Update was always
meant to be a monthly or late-breaking news forum, but with really absolutely nothing
major to report (a little article here, a little article there), the Updates were put
on hold, until now. Late word from The Park has confirmed a Prince/
convention is in the works and, get this, a tour. so, without any more
waste, let's get to the news items.
Newz Item #1-Prince/
To Kick Off Tour
The tour is set to kick off in late June and will cover the United States and
Canada. No word on if the tour will carry overseas. As was reported elsewhere, he has
not been doing tour rehearsals this entire time. Rather, he has been on hiatus with the
Arista problems. In fact, it is being reported through his new website, which was unveiled
in March, N P G o n l i n e L T D
says that rehearsals have just started for brand new members of the New Power Generation,
including a new drummer (we want Michael B.!!) and a female guitarist. This is an open
audition, so Contact Paisley Park, not us, for any information on how to audition for
the part. There will be a press conference in New York City in early May to officially
announce the tour. As soon as dates are announced, we will drop the newz onto you.
Newz item #2-Prince/
"Fan" convention
at Paisley Park
June 7 thru June 14
The date is tentative for the time being so do not call you travel agent
just yet. It is being heavily planned though, inviting all previous bandmembers of every
tour and release The Purple One has ever put out. Will Wendy & Lisa show? Could we
see a never-before-dreamed line up of W & L with Michael B. on the drums, Rosie G. with
Dr. Fink? The possabilities are endless. The fact is, this is something we would crave,
so most likely, unless egos can be put aside, it will not happen. There are reportedly
goodies (new unreleased tracks and remixes) being recorded for this once-in-a-lifetime
event.
very much so wants to see this
happen. So much for not celebrating birthdays. June 7 kickoff date, eh? No complaint
here. More info will follow in our May update.
Newz item #3-NPG/Arista Dispute
Clive Davis and
are nearly
at each others throats over the lack of promotion on "Rave." Understandibly,
is clearly more upset and over Clive's promise that there are "several hit singles"
on this record.
is quick to point out that
"Newpower Soul" has sold the exact same amount of units that "Rave" has sold --
slighty over 425,000 units (which, sad to say, is what
NSYNC
has sold this week alone).
In March, there was supposed to be singles released for "Man O' War" and "Hot Wit U"
but none materilized because in
's mind, Arista was
not fully promoting the songs to radio. Also, at that time, and even now,
wants the next single to be "So Far, So Pleased" with Gwen Stefani of No Doubt. Arista had to
obtain permission thru Trauma/Interscope Records for it to be used. Interscope wanted a
second single to be released off of No Doubt's new cd before SFSP would even be contemplated
for release. The better No Doubt's cd sells, the better the chance of SFSP getting released
(first week totals reported a dismal 201,000 copies sold). No Doubt would like nothing more than
to help
out, being harcore "Prince" fans
(a member proves it in the issue of Teen people with J. Lopez on the cover. Inside, Tony, No Doubt's
bass player is seen wearing a "Purple Rain" tour shirt. Arista never really
believed in the project, kind of odd the timing of Clive being told in June he will be
replaced was three (3) days after "Rave" was released. Arista's beef was the huge
payday
was given. Uptown Magazine reported that
was payed $10 million for the one-disc promise of "Rave." This was done by Clive
without getting clearance from the honchos overseas, who, in turn, did not think "Rave"
was a sure hit.
May seems like a likely time the song could possibly be released, and with Clive leaving in early June,
has to show Arista they should still promote "Rave."
could have other ideas though and show Arista as he showed
Warner Bros. that he is a better marketing tool then they are (remember, "The Most Beautiful
Girl ..." was released iindepentently to show Warner Bross he can have a chart-topper without
a label).
Newz item #4-
and Mayte in the New "InStyle" Magazine
They get the top right cover and a interview piece with shots of his
and Mayte's palace in Spain. Rumours have been swirling of a recent spat in a NYC night club.
Ok, show me the video tape since I was not there and do not take anything second-hand. I
am sure they may not have a typical marriage, but
has been very cool when it comes to his personal life keeping fights and such in private.
So, to all the haters, I again offer you a nice tall glass of shut the hell up juice !!!
Newz item #5-Will The 777 Update Get its
Own Webpage, Already?
Many offers were made for The 777 Update to be accessed on their own
webpages, and that is not something we want.
Prince.Org is already giving us space, and we kindly thank Matt for that. Sending
this through e-mail has so far stopped any lawsuits from coming our way, but it would
be nice to have a page where you can easily access all info. So anyone care to help,
email us back at this address.
Newz item #6-Update (ed)
I am glad to report the handing out of the unreleased "Rave"
track, "Livin' 2 Die," was a success. If you need a copy, please let us know
and we will gladly send you out one. it is not an an MP3 to avoid any trouble, but it is
an O.K. track, not a stand out but worth having.
Newz item #7-Contact (ed)
If you or anybody you know wants to be added or deleted to this list,
please email us at RolThaDice@AOL.Com. We
sincerely enjoy reading your letters and trying to answer them. If you have any questions
whatsoever, let us know. We are currently working on a question of the month board, and
next month's first question will be, "Who did
write,
'I love U, but I Don't Trust U Anymore" for?"
Hope everyone has a good time at the Toledo convention. And, since the 777 Update people
are centered in the heart and soul of Los Angeles, California, we would like to have a
get together party with other
supporters
from L.A. 2 shake that ass to some new power mixes. So if you are close to L.A., let us
know if that idea interests you at all.
Oh, and by the way, to the 'Frisco Purpleheadz :: maybe next time you have a party down
there, I may just attend this time. Funky 'til kingdom come. See you next time all
