And now, the latest 777 Update, dated Monday, August 07, 2000. "The news, not the bull ...." Hello and welcome 2 another 777 Update. This is the first Update since the special edition celebration update in Minneapolis. And we wish there were more groundbreaking stuff 2 report. Although several things were 2 be released from Paisley Park in August, no release date(s) have been set. So again, we will set fact from fiction, true from false. And if u have 2 know, go to news item #7 for a possible major event. And here we go ... Newz Item #1-New "Prince" cd "A Doll's House" 2 be released on Sony? False! At the end of June, it was being widely reported all over the net that Sony had signed Prince 2 a one (1) album deal. This rumor all started when one of Prince's studio employees, Hans, gave an interview to a music magazine overseas and said Prince was working on new material with a working title track, "A Doll's House." A few years ago, it was reported that an unreleased track entitled "Katrina's Doll House" was recorded 4 a possible inclusion on Mayte's "Child of The Sun" cd. The 777 Update has never come across this unreleased track, so we do not know if it actually exists. By the first week of July, there were several reported "track lists&uot; surfacing everywhere. A fake Billboard article caused more buzz among Purpleheadz, not knowing that the article was never printed in Billboard. The fake article said that Prince was shopping "A Doll's House" around 4 a distributor. Not true. But, a five-song cd sampler was circulating in the music biz of unreleased Prince songs. From what we are told, they were five (5) songs that Spike Lee was given by Prince for inclusion in his new movie, which is due out in September. Spike was to have chosen one track from the sampler for inclusion on the cd. It of course had to go thru the record distributor, hence, that is how copies may have been leaked. Please see item #3 for more information on the Spike Lee / Prince collaboration. Newz item #2-Prince is Recording New Tracks For an Upcoming CD? True! Since Prince has been playing and performing new songs at Paisley Park, it made it look like "A Doll's House" was a sure thing. Now although there are no plans 2 release a new cd, we all know that Prince could release a new cd next week if he wanted 2. Prince is always recording, even during this, in what is 2 be his spirtual cleansing period. New tracks that have been heard at The Park recently are "Va Va Voom" (coincidentally, Brian Setzer Orchestra's new cd has the same name), "Golden Parachute," and "Why Should I Do That When I Can Do This." He seems plenty pleased with these tracks as well as the Purpleheadz who say his guitar work on "Va Va Voom" is 2 die 4. IS this the guitar record we voted 4 at Paisley? Newz item #3-Prince 2 Have a Song on New Spike Lee Movie? True! Spike was given new songs to choose from and it has not been decided what will be used. In the film already is an old Prince song which is supposed 2 be replaced by the new song. Right now, it is wait and see. The soundtrack 2 the film drops in September. Newz item #4-Rave Un2 The Year 2000 2 Finally be Released on DVD and Video in the United States? True! The release date is October 31, and will include different camera angles than that were shown on the pay-per-view version, as well as performances not shown. Not one of his best live shows 2 own (get Sign 'O' The Times concert film if u dig) but still a must 4 all Purpleheadz. U know the person dissing his performance will most likely be standing next to you in line waiting to buy it. Newz item #5-Prince 7-disc cd Sampling Set Ready 2 be Released? True! The 7-disc cd sampling set has been ready since May, but Prince will not release one copy until there have been 100,000 pre-orders 4 this expensive set. The set is $700 and includes the copyright to use the samples in songs. There are several acts in the rap community waiting for it (no word if Puff Daddy has ordered one yet). The one problem with the sampling set is this -- Prince will have no say how the sample is used. When it came to letting rappers sample him a few years ago, they could not have the "bitch this" and "40 that" in the song because he would not allow clearance. By purchasing this cd, he is giving full clearance 2 any and all rappers and other acts that care 2 use samples. Newz item #6-Prince Will not Release The Special Edition "Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic" ?!? False! In all honesty, it has been about nine (9) months since the regular version of "Rave" was released and many have pondered why he would release it now, if ever. He was, and is, truly proud of the record and was immensely disappointed by the way Arista Records and Clive Davis handled the promotion of it. Prince is somehow hoping in some way 2 get the special edition talked about outside the Prince community, although he is only planning on releasing it internet only. There could be several reasons why it is taking awhile. Prince, more than life itself, wanted the track "So Far, So Pleased," with Gwen Stefani, 2 be released but No Doubt's record label, Trauma/Interscope, blocked that from happining. If Prince has his way, this song will be released, if only he could get promotion 4 it. Hmmm ... like performing on an upcoming awards showv ???? Hmmm ... and this could definitely kick start a tour. Newz item #7-Prince 2 Perform at The MTV Video Music Awards on September 7th? (Wait and See) Prince was again approached 2 perform at the annual MTV awards show, as he was last year when he declined and instead introduced TLC. Purpleheadz have already been getting sick to their stomach's wondering what he could do. Will he be a guest performer with Britney Spears? Will he play guitar over an Eminem track? Will he and Santana trade licks? Or will Prince be like KISS a few years ago when they performed on the show and would he do a song that is 20 years old? As everyone knows, Prince is very close 2 MTV VJ Ananda Lewis, who is a big Prince supporter and has been steaming mad at Carson Daly for comments Daly made concerning Prince 2 the L.A. Times. There is no comment if Prince has accepted MTV's invitation, since he always says MTV hates him. But again, would he go solo or do a duet with someone? One thing everyone has forgot is that Prince said he was going to hook up with No Doubt while they were in Minneapolis 2 talk over some things. Now, I don't know about you, but we would absolutely love 2 see Prince and No Doubt perform this song on the show !!! Have that be the suprise moment. Again, 2 reiterate, Prince has been approached but no comment has been giving as to if he has said yes. So do not expect to see it. Just know that he has been asked and WE are stating it would be a great idea if he is trying 2 promote the "Rave Special Edition" and upcoming tour. * * * # # # * * * I would again like to thank Prince.Org 4 still being the badd-ass best site 4 getting various news on Prince and other things. As some of you know, on July 4th, J7 was seriously injured in a car accident by a drunk driver. He is not fully recovered from the injuries and the drunk driver has not been caught yet since the drunk ran off on foot -- and the L.A.P.D. works rather slow in these cases. I just wanted to take time out and thank all who knew I was injured for the concern and well wishes that were sent my way. I am truly grateful 2 be alive and it's nice 2 see Purpleheadz have what I always knew what the rest of the world lacks; hearts of gold ... Thank U. 4 LOS ANGELES PURPLEHEADZ !!!!!
